'Ariel'- Air spirit'

okay, before we all go criticising about the 'male' persuasion of this faerie, listen and learn;
(a cut out from the book- 'Fantasy artists pocket reference, Phantastic Faeries)- Which is where i will be getting most of the info for the Faeries.

'Ariel first appeared in the play 'the tempest' by William Shakespeare. Ariel is forever bound to serve Prospero the magician after being rescued by him from a spell cast by Sycorax the witch. Among Ariels powers is the ability to control the wind and create violent storms.
Ariel means- 'Lion of the lord' in hebrew.
Ariels gender has never truly been revealed although the pronoun 'he' is used twice in the play. The stage role of Ariel was traditionally played by young boys but is performed by women in most modern productions.'
